Bodega El Fabulista, located in the heart of the town of Laguardia, is seven metres beneath a 17th century palace and owes its name to one of the most renowned inhabitants of the palace and of the town: The fable writer Félix María de Samaniego.
The visit to the winery begins outside, with a brief explanation of the palace where Samaniego once lived, and of his life and customs. Then, the tour will take you to the basement of the palace where you will find the four calados (cellars) that make up the winery. One is where the wine is made, another where it is aged, and the other two are for tasting our wines.
This underground winery has been adapted to captivate visitors with explanations about the origin of the calados (cellars) and the winemaking process using the traditional carbonic maceration method.
El Fabulista is not only one of the largest and most spectacular wineries among the more than 300 caves within the walls of the town, but also one of the few where wine is still made in the traditional manner.
The guided tour, which can be taken any day of the week, consists of a brief historical overview and continues with a pleasant and graphic explanation of how wine is made, starting in our basins at street level, where we tread the grapes as in the past, and then you can visit the four underground calados (cellars) and finish by tasting the wines made in the winery.
